Our pool is an Intex 18' x 48" model. We were having trouble cleaning out the small debris that would settle on the bottom using the water/siphon type vacuum. Small particles wouldn't be caught by the mesh bag (also tried cutting up my wife's pantyhose to replace the tie-on mesh bag hoping that it was a finer mesh, but particles still made it through back into the pool). You'd also have to siphon out the added water and re-add salt to the filtration system. A real pain-in-the-ass. This maintenance kit has a vacuum with hose that attaches to the filter intake port on the side of the pool, via a special (included) screw on adapter. Therefore, the power of the filter suction does the work, no excess water. Inside the vacuum head is a mesh bag which catches all of the heavy, large debris. The vacuum head unscrews, so that you can remove and clean the mesh bag. Small debris particles and algae pass through the bag to the filter, instead of back to the pool like the water/siphon vacuum. Perfect, exactly what you need. All you do is attach the vacuum head to the included hose and telescoping pole, then attach the other end of the hose to the screw on adapter (which you affix first to the filter intake on the side of the pool). IMPORTANT - make sure that you get as much air out of the hose, before you attach it, by submerging it in the pool water. The filter cannot pump air and will run poorly and not suction properly if air is in the hose/system. After everything is attached, turn on your filter and watch how easy it is to clean your pool. It really does a fantastic job. The vacuum head also has bristles so you can scrub at the same time. Our pool was crystal clear all summer, no lies. Also, the cost of this kit was great, especially considering that they give you the vacuum head, the mesh bag, the telescoping pole, the hose, the screw on adapter, a brush head for the the pole, and a deep bag skimmer head for scooping up leaves and large debris. Super item, should actually be included when you buy the pool, but it's not for some stupid reason. (Seriously, the pool cost me more than $900. Do you think that adding a $35 proper cleaning kit is going to break the bank at that point??? - Who's the marketing genius that dropped the ball on this one???) The only negative was that the box arrived opened during delivery. I couldn't tell if it was Amazon's fault or UPS. Although, I think it was Amazon's fault because the box is like a pizza box (sort of), you know, hinged on one side, flip it up and close it. The closing end/side only had one small piece of clear tape on it. The whole box should have been taped shut. So, it was bound to come open during UPS transit. Nevertheless, all items were there at arrival. A couple of other things - 1) the items in this kit seem pretty durable; 2) you need to be careful with the vacuum head as it is made of plastic and if you drop it or over tighten it could break/fracture (it's durable, just don't do something stupid); 3) the two screw-locks on the telescoping pole can come loose/unglued, but just apply some Gorilla glue and they will stay in place; 4) also, be gentle with the mesh bag when cleaning it, as it is only single stitched to the rubber grommet (you don't want to break the stitching or the large debris will pass through clog the filter intake valve constantly); 5) the telescoping pole (fully extended) almost reaches from one side of our 18' diameter pool to the other; 6) remember to clean your filter cartridge after you're done vacuuming (just take it out and wash the gunk/dirt off with your hose and re-install - then your filter will work at max effort); 7) if you are one of those people (my wife) who likes to vacuum/clean your pool while actually being in it - the hose (even full with water) floats and makes it very easy to maneuver around; 8) not trying to be sexist, but my wife loves this, as it is much easier for the ladies to use than the water/hose/siphon/vacuum type. That's it. I think I've covered everything that I have experienced. Honestly, I hated having to vacuum the pool with the water/hose/siphon each week for the wife and kids. This product made it almost enjoyable and cut the vacuuming time in half, maybe more. Cynthia Hutson July 25, 2017 The hose needs to be full of water in order for the vacuum to have suction. It will not work well if there is air in the hose. when you screw it on it clicks once so you assume it's on, I gentle screwed it in more and heard a 2nd click. I attached the hose to one filter hole and then put the small rubber piece ( the set comes with) in the other hole. So you get maximum suction from the hose. I vacuumed once around the pool and after 10 minutes pulled the filter out of the vacuum to see if it was picking up debre. It was and very well. I cleaned the filter bag and vacuumed again. Christi House July 15, 2017 I wish the holes in the mesh lining of the skimmer were smaller. It doesn't pick up small gnats and tiny debris. a standard garden hose method vacuum that came with my pool and it never worked for me +++++++ I wasn't willing to fork over hundreds of dollars for a vacuum. Once I placed the adapter on an Inlet attachment, things started falling into place. Next, I had to put the plug into the second inlet hole, otherwise there was not enough pressure in the water to get the vacuum to suck up the debris. When placing the hose in the water, you must first attach the hose to the vacuum and submerge the vacuum, then began placing the hose deep into the water STARTING NEAREST TO THE VACUUM. Do not just throw the entire hose in and expect it to fill. As you pull the hose in about a foot at a time, it will fill. Once you reach the other end, water should begin coming up through it. If you still have a lot of air in the hose, turn on your pool pump and place the end of the hose up against the outlet to push water through the hose for about a minute. Keep the hose under water and move it over to the inlet adapter and place it on the adapter. Voila! Also, very important to now release the air on your filter pump. You may need to do this repeatively, as it will help keep the suction pressure high and keep from damaging your pump. When your waste basket gets full, turn off your pump and pull the hose off of the vacuum, and clean the basket using a garden hose. Before continuing to clean the pool, you must pull the hose out and start at step one with submerging the hose and releasing air from it before turning on the pump again and continuing. So there you go. 1. Hook hose up to the INLET! 2. Plug up the 2nd inlet (if you have 2). 3. Submerge the hose a little bit at a time starting with the end closest to the vacuum. 4. Release any additional air by holding hose onto the OUTLET once pump is running. 5. Release the air that got into your pump/filter area. DB1 May 29, 2018 Villarreal Family Just a tip, the hose for the vacuum cleaner is very long and it really needs all of the air out of it before the vacuum will produce results. You can find several videos that show you easy ways to accomplish this without trying to dunk the hose into the pool. cupcake_queen September 23, 2018 If there is any air in the pump/hose/vacuum head it will not work properly. So....I leave the pump running when i hook it up. read again, not understand - R. Marks June 28, 2017 It sucks both large leaves and sticks and small dirt from the bottom of the pool with ease. ============> JDD April 3, 2018 - wall brush is crap could buy at the .99¢ store. - The brush is 10” inches long by 1” inch wide. Brissles feel like a toothbrush. - The hose is cheap and is actually four cheap intex hoses clamped together. - the pole is pretty good. Probably as good as ones I’ve seen going for $15 or so at Walmart. - The net looks pretty good too. William May 21, 2019 =========================================================================> Look back Read go slow with vaccum in pool so you dont stir up the dirt by moving to fast. baseball fam October 6, 2015 ====================================> vanessa September 7, 2017 ---- Algae Pool saver. I love this kit! I was at war with algae this year and seeking a good vacuum for the job. This exceeded my expectations on the job it does, however the head of the device always comes off. That is the only thing I hate about it. As long as you attach it back while under water you wont have to restart the suction. The filter also was getting full bc I honestly had an awful algae attack. I learned this trick. When the filer inside the vac gets full of algae it wont suck anymore, so while keeping the device under water the whole process, remove the hose from the vac, then remove the head, and quickly use the hose to suck out the filter. Dont worry if some get back in the pool. Then place the head back on and the hose back to the vac and proceed with your battle. I did this so I wouldnt have to start a syphonn everytime my filter got full. Gr8nan May 29, 2019 Works! Great value for your $! I need to buy another for backup!! 1. You have to twist the two piece cylinder until you hear a click. That will ensure it doesn't come apart. 2. The hose has to be full of water without any bubbles to get a good suction. 3. Make sure you cover one intake outlet (if you have two) with the cover provided. After I did all these things I started with a clean filter in the pump. When I got done the net inside the cylinder was full of debris and dirt. The new filter was so full of dirt I had to change it to keep the pump running correctly. So I said all that to say, this vacuum is so worth every penny. And it is cheap for the quality you receive. My pool is so clean I cannot believe how good this vacuum works. Slater22 August 1, 2018 And I love how the debris doesn’t go into the filter, so if I did still have the cartridge filter the pool came with, I wouldn’t have to worry about it clogging up a cartridge. My pool had a ton of debris after a week of heavy rains and thunderstorms, and also, a few branches from a walnut tree hang over it. When I tell you that squirrels drop hundreds, HUNDREDS, of nuts into my pool a week, I’m not exaggerating. It’s maddening. But that said, this vacuum picked up all the weeks’ worth of nuts and the fine debris (I typically scoop the nite out daily with my skimmer) and surprisingly I didn’t have to empty it before I finished.
