- How a pool works
+ During normal operation, water flows to the filtering system through two or more main drains at the bottom of the pool and multiple skimmer drains around the top of the pool. The water is pumped through the filtering system and back out to returns, inlet valves around the side of the pool. This system involves a lot of suction. You can connect a hose with your swimline to one of these valves and that´s it. You handle the swimline with a telescoping pole. 
  
  Allow me to answer the question CLEARLY after 3 years, to those wondering how this works... 

  Your pool will have a 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" intake valve, located somewhere just below the water line. 
  Hopefully this valve already has a safety, flip cover on it -more on this later. When the cover is 
  removed(or if there is not a cover on it), it pulls in water the same way your drain does at the bottom of the pool and filters it through your filter system. Use caution when getting near this intake if there is no cover because the suction is very strong and could cause injury. You'll need to purchase a hose along with this sweeper, which one end will connect to the intake mentioned earlier, and the other end to the unit. Make the hose connections with your pool filter system OFF, as the suction will prohibit you from opening the safety cover if the system is on. Or if there is no safety cover, you do NOT want your hands close to this as I mentioned earlier. Once you have connected the hose between the sweeper and pool intake valve, attach your pole to the sweeper and submerge it in the water. At this point, turn your filter system back on and begin vacuuming the bottom of your pool. Leaves and other debris will be sucked up through the hose and into your filter system.
